This arrived in the mail a while back in one of those envelopes with a see-through panel. Just enough of the contents showed through that I could see “Pay to the Order of” alongside my name.
Once I opened the envelope, of course, I realized that it is NOT A CHECK. It is shaped like a check. It is printed like a check. It has an amount like a check. It is signed like a check. But it is NOT A CHECK.
So what does one do with NOT A CHECK?
Perhaps send it back with a note: NOT AN IDIOT.
