I understand all too well how a reporter, writing on deadline, can type “signing” instead of “singing.”
Of course, where Simon Cowell is concerned, everyone is always trying to read the signs, so maybe the reporter really did mean the “popular Fox signing competition.”
Then again, nah. Just a typo.
But the article goes out over the wires, and websites everywhere pick it up and post it unedited. Some, like OK Magazine, have their own writers massage the AP story but apparently like the typo so much that they keep it.
Then other celebrity sites pick up the post from OK Magazine, and repeat it from yet another source.
Sloppiness goes viral.
Then again, after a year in which more than 15,000 journalists lost their jobs, maybe it was a sign.
