With egg on my irrational face

My brother, Dave, writes:

“Dear Editor,

“I was just curious about the following line from your article:

“‘ … to make reasoned, rationale decisions – that’s when ignorance melds into laziness.’”

“Does the use of rationale in this make it irrationale?”

Sigh.

Yes, the editor makes stupid mistakes himself and needs to be taken to task when he does.

I did indeed mean rational, meaning sound; not rationale, meaning the logic or reasoning behind something.

I shall bow my head, let the egg ooze from my red face – and be grateful that my brother isn’t a Roman sentry.
