Hopefully

Hopefully should describe the way the subject feels. Don’t use it to mean it is hoped, let us hope or we hope. The incorrect usage usually pops up when writers eliminate the subject from a sentence, as in: Hopefully, it won’t rain today. Here’s how to get around the problem:

“They said the hoped it wouldn’t rain today.”

OR

“It won’t rain today, they said hopefully.”
