You know those “raw-raw” leaders, don’t you?
You usually see them leading chants at Japanese restaurants:
“How do we like our sushi?”
“Raw! Raw!”
“How do we eat our sushi?”
“Raw! Raw! Raw!”
Of course, this was a story about a volleyball player. So I’m guessing the reference was to a “rah-rah” leader. That would make the spelling “rah,” as in “hurrah.”
Then again, the person at the sushi bar would have to be a “rah-rah” leader, as well. And if that person were the ancient Egyptian sun god Ra, that make him “rah-rah, raw-raw Ra.”
I wonder if this is how cheerleading got its start.
